Tioman's community clinic
Now, should you need a doctor whilst in Tioman, note that there is well-stocked clinic located in the village of Tekek, Tioman's most centrally located village. If you're in any of the other villages on the west coast: Genting, Paya, ABC or Salang, then get a boat taxi to Tekek. From Juara Village, you'll need to take a 4x4. In any of these cases, it shouldn't be more than 20 minutes, at most, to reach the clinic.
The Tekek clinic's phone number is +60 (0)9-4191880. The clinic is located left after coming away from the jetty. Look for the "Vision Commerce" building, because the clinic is very close.
Clinic opening hours
Mon-Thu | 8am - 1pm | 2pm-5pm |
|
Fri | 8am-12:15pm | 2:45pm-5pm |
As you can see, the clinic is open at irregular hours and is closed on weekends. Whilst unfortunate, there is an alternative, because the Berjaya Hotel, which is also in Tekek, offers a clinic too. You can get a taxi from the Tekek jetty to the Berjaya, a short 5 minute drive.
Note that the nearest hospital is in Mersing on the mainland. However, in case of an emergency, there is always a speedboat available to make a beeline for Mersing.
Important phone numbers:
Tioman Clinic +60 (0)9-4191880
Mersing Hospital +60 (0)7-799 3333
(Leave out the +60 and the bracketed 0 if you're using a local phone)
Police:
There is a police station in Tekek and a small police station in Salang.
