Nipah Bersatu is back to basics, simple, nothing fancy. But Nipah Bersatu is genuine and our absolute favorite place to stay in Tioman. I mean, Nipah Bersatu's setting alone, right at the foot of Tioman's famous Dragon Horns, is so different, so unique, we never cease to be overwhelmed by this majestic backdrop. It's like being in Jurassic Park, simply awesome.
Selamat datang, welcome to Bersatu Nipah
Nipah Bersatu's beautifully rugged setting is one of the many reasons that keep us coming back again and again.
But Nipah Bersatu also happens to have a stunning stretch of beach, crystal-clear turquoise-colored water and some of the best snorkelling spots this side of Tioman.
Nipah Bersatu is remote and it's peaceful, the ideal location to leave it all behind for a while, spend some time just reflecting and lounging with your loved ones.
Another Bersatu Nipah picture perfect sunset
Mind you, it's not just reflecting and lounging that you can do at Nipah Bersatu. In fact, we had a blast snorkelling, canoeing, jungle-trekking and angling. Best of all, our fresh catch was cooked to perfection that night by Amy, the chef at Nipah Bersatu.
Speaking of eating and drinking, let me offer a wee word of warning. Food and beverage pricing here at Nipah Bersatu is a little higher than on Malaysia's mainland. Incidentally, this applies to all hospitality outlets in Tioman. But it's not really fair to compare. After all, on the mainland, there are lots of roads, and transporting goods is easy and cheap.
However, for Nipah Bersatu, as well as all other hotel, resort and guest house in Tioman, every single item has to be ferried in, after which it needs to be transferred, usually by sheer man-power alone, from the ferry to a smaller vessel. This smaller vessel is then sailed to the intended destination and then beached, after which all goods, produce, etc are typically hand-carried across the beach into the resort compound.
To be honest, I think it wouldn't be justified to expect the same prices as on the mainland.
Either way, we take the slightly higher F&B price level in our stride. And obviously there are others who feel this way. In fact, if any travelers are discouraged from visiting Nipah Bersatu because of the pricing difference with the mainland, then I suppose our tranquil idyllic home away from home, our Nipah Bersatu, will remain tranquil and idyllic for us, as well as for all others, who, like us, treasure this wonderful little slice of paradise.
Nipah Bersatu really is a magical place, just the ticket for people keen to spend some quality low-key time surrounded by family or friends and Tioman's raw natural beauty.
Nipah Bersatu's staff are lovely, accommodating and truly personify the traditional Malay kampong hospitality of yesteryear. Staying at Nipah Bersatu is like stepping back into time, this now almost extinct kampong-era. It's a wonderful one-of-a-kind experience that I'm not sure will be possible for much longer.
I mean, we've been to some swanky resorts in Asia and they were without a doubt enjoyable. But truth be told, our fondest Asia travel memories are of the idyllic days and nights we spent cocooning in rustic Nipah Bersatu. Hopefully, it remains that way for ever...
Tip:
The chalets at Nipah Bersatu are sandwiched between a lapping sea on one side and a verdant tumbling jungle on the other, so whilst almost endless sea panoramas are a given, I do suggest you bring some bug repellent to keep out the mozzies and the like. On a culinary note, once you've gotten to know Amy, put in a special request for her prawn curry, one of her signature dishes. You won't regret it. Lastly, Nipah Bersatu only offers 10 chalets, so reserving yours in advance is recommended. You can book now and pay later on Agoda or, if you prefer, Booking.com. Regards to Amy :)
